Virat Kohli’s advice helped me take wickets: Ravindra Jadeja

India spinner Ravindra Jadeja, who missed out on scoring his first century in India’s eight-wicket victory over England in the Mohali Test, vowed to bat more carefully in the future, when he is in his 90s.
Speaking during the post match presentation, where he was felicitated as the Man of the Match, for scoring 90 in the first innings, and taking four wickets in the match, Jadeja said that sticking to the crease was the mantra for getting the big runs in Mohali.
“I knew the ball was not turning. I took my time. I knew if I play 40-50 balls, I could play a big innings,” said Jadeja.
However, when asked about missing out on what could have been his maiden Test century, Jadeja lamented the fact that he took undue risks.
“I knew I could easily score runs later on. I was just thinking I was not taking a chance against the offspinner. I took the risk against the legspinner,” said Jadeja. “Unfortunately the ball came off slowly, and I couldn't connect it. The next time I reach 90 I will be careful.”
The 27-year-old also revealed the strategy that he discussed with Virat Kohli, that helped him tighten the screw on the English batsmen.
“Myself and Virat discussed that I should bowl five maidens in a row,” said Jadeja. “Fortunately I got Stokes in the first innings and Root in the second.”
